Time to Celebrate

As some of you may know, we recently celebrated our 2 year anniversary of our West Campus storefront being open!  Something about anniversaries always makes me nostalgic, and I was looking back over all the beautiful and fun projects we completed over the past year.  Mostly these were custom cake projects of course, but I was pleased to see that we did many non-cake creations too.  There were lovely painted macarons, creatively decorated sugar cookies, and just the cutest little Easter baskets.  I had so much fun reviewing our past years work, I thought I would share some of my favorites with you here.  The following is a small collection of pictures and brief descriptions of our work from our second year being open.  I hope you enjoy them as much as I did!

Also, before I get to the pictures, I want to give some recognition to the customers and clients who ordered all of these custom creations.  Everything we bake, decorate, and deliver is made especially for someone to enjoy, and we would not be producing any of these cakes, cupcakes, cookies, macarons, etc. if our customers did not order them.  So THANK YOU to everyone who supported My Sweet Austin by purchasing your special occasion cakes and desserts from us.

Without further ado, and in no particular order, here are my favorite cakes and desserts from the past year at My Sweet Austin:

Garden Rosette Cake

This original take on a rosette cake design was for a very special mommy-to-be.  She loves color and provided us with a picture of her invitation as inspiration.  We came up with a cake for her that features buttercream rosettes of varying sizes and colors, with little green buttercream leaves interspersed throughout.  The resulting pattern reminds me of a whimsical garden landscape.  And to top it all off, we made a sugar banner featuring the name of the new baby.

Quirky Sugar Flowers and Rustic Buttercream Wedding Cake

This wedding cake was extra special because it was for a couple who have been getting cakes and cookies from us for years for many different occasions.  In addition to the customary cake tasting and consultation we hold for our wedding cake clients, we also collaborated on a Pinterest board to keep sharing ideas and inspirations.  We came up with this beautiful classic buttercream backdrop to act as a canvas for these fun, bright sugar flowers.  I love how the sugar flowers really pop against the white background, and I love how they are a different variety than those typically found on wedding cakes.

Woodland Wedding Cake

This sweet little two tier wedding cake was actually a display cake we made for our shop and to take with us to showcase our work at bridal shows.  We layered some fondant for a birch effect, added some mushrooms, acorns, leaves, and flowers, and topped it all off with the most adorable foxes.

Easter Baskets

This past Easter we thought we would try making something a little different from our usual cake selections, and I couldn’t have been happier with the result.  We found the perfect small baskets and nestled in them a few pretty pastel macarons, bunny and egg decorated sugar cookies, and of course a chocolate rabbit.  These made wonderful gifts, and were a great alternative from the same old neon colored marshmallow treats so often found in Easter baskets.

Unicorn Sprinkle Cake

This cake was for a little girl for her first birthday.  It feels magical and sweet without being too over the top.  I think these particular sprinkles are my current favorite variety of sprinkles, and I love how they cover the top and then delicately cascade down the sides.  We made the unicorn to match and added the clouds and star to make it even more fanciful and playful.  I can’t think of a better way to celebrate!

So there you have it.  Just a few of my favorites from this past year at My Sweet Austin.  I know the next year will bring many more, and I can’t wait.  To keep up to date with our work, check us out on Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/my_sweet_austin/ . Thanks for reading!
